The boathouse is an ephemeral shelter. I foraged the materials from the streets and gardens of the area I recently started recognizing as home. The leaves become brittle, the flowers wilt and the stems fall limp. Nature is ever changing. This boathouse will soon become a home for ants and other animals.
The roof was inspired by the palm leaf decorations common in South India while the sail was made using the technique used to make pattal leaf plates. The fallen jackfruit tree leaves create a natural gradation of red and green. Stitching the leaves was a delicate process reminding me of the coexistence of fragility and resilience in nature.
